Call For Scholarship Applications For Entry To Senior One

The Kahima Trust is pleased to announce the commencement of its scholarship program and to invite applications from qualified candidates for its Senior One entry scholarship.

Goals of the Scholarship Program

The Kahima Trust was established to give bright but financially challenged children in Uganda an opportunity to access an education. The Senior One Entry Scholarship aims to provide school fees to bright but needy boys and girls; and to provide mentorship opportunities for them. The Kahima Trust has limited available funds for scholarships and is meant to support only the very needy cases. The scholarship will cover costs for four years from Senior One to Senior Four only, for beneficiaries as long as they meet the eligibility criteria.

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the scholarship: The applicants MUST:

  • Be born and raised in the greater Kigarama sub-County, Sheema District and must have attended primary school in the sub-County.
  • Continue to excel in their studies to be eligible for continued financial support. This means that beneficiaries who fail to progress to the next class at the end of the academic year will lose the scholarship.

The Kahima Trust will award scholarships to at least five promising girls and boys for the 2020 academic year. Selection will be done by The Kahima Trust assisted by a team of independent individuals. Applicants will be selected based on the following criteria:

  1. Must have obtained at least 20 aggregates in the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE)
  2. Be among the top 20% of students in their class from P.5 to P.6 with consistently high performance.
  3. Demonstrated financial difficulty to join a secondary school of their choice.
  4. Compelling reason for getting the scholarship as described in the cover letter.

The selection of beneficiaries will be done based on the 2019 PLE results; and also ensuring gender balance.

Successful applicants will receive up to a maximum of Uganda Shillings One million five hundred thousand (UGX 1,500,000) per year, towards the payment of school fees for a period of four years. The school fees will be paid directly to the secondary school to which the applicant is admitted.
